About me
My name is Ioana, but I go by Jen online and that’s how you’ll find me commenting on blogs and forums. I’m 24 and I live in Bucharest, Romania. My background is pretty eclectic and has nothing to do with books for the most part: I did computer science in high-school (I still like computers), I studied tourism in university (I love traveling) and I did a master’s in business communication. I did work for a while as a copy editor for a publishing house with a spec.fic. collection, which was a dream come true for a while. The story didn’t have a happy ending, but I am very happy that I got to take care of a series very close to my heart.
Since this is a book blog, let’s talk books. Fantasy is my favorite genre (but please, no elves), but I also like certain species of SF, some horror and the odd mainsteam novel. I used to read exclusively speculative fiction until a few years ago, but now my tastes have diversified.
My favorite writer is Roger Zelazny. I fell in love with Nine Princes in Amber when I was about 13 and, after I managed to read most of his novels and short stories, he’s won the number 1 spot. You’re very likely to find a lot of Zelazny-related rambles here, be warned.
In no particular order, other favorite authors of mine are Jeff VanderMeer, Neil Gaiman, Stephen King, Terry Pratchett, Robert Holdstock. And then there’s authors I discovered recently: Scott Lynch, Karen Traviss, Charles de Lint.
A couple of favorite books and series:
- The Sheep Look Up by John Brunner
- The Dark Tower saga by Stephen King
- The Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett, especially the ones with Death and the City Watch
- The Amber Chronicles by Roger Zelazny
- The Mythago Wood saga by Robert Holdstock
I try to read in English as much as possible and I am forever indebted to the friends who help/helped me get books for cheap, have carried them from the US or have given me books as presents.
