My special New Weird
After postal troubles (again), my New Weird is finally here. With the special dedication Horia was telling me about.
(Since I couldn’t be there at the launch, Horia got the autograph for me and then mailed me the book. Two times even, because the first attempt was thwarted by the idiots at my post office.)
It’s going to be read and written about at some point, but not quite now as I just started two books (Vellum and Snow Crash, for the curious).
Anyway, here’s my book and its adorable “new weird” kitty.

You really got my curiosity aroused with this “Vellum”, that you praise every time you get the chance…

It’s fantasy, so you might not like it. Then again, it’s fantasy written by a programmer, with ancient archetypes side by side with nanites, so who knows… don’t blame me if you hate it, though :P That seems to be the general trend: you either love it or hate it, with nothing in between.

Nice dedication :) I’m happy for you, because I know how nasty our postal service can be.

Dunno why almost everybody I know got the idea that I hate Fantasy books. I do hate some (tolkien clones and HP style, if that is a style), but at the same time I do really enjoy Mieville, Martin, Cook or Ema Bull and others.
So, why?

I didn’t say you *hate* them… it’s just different tastes. When you post 20 new books on the blog and I’m interested in maybe 2, I assume you like that genre. Since most of the books were SF and didn’t strike me as very interesting, I assumed we just like other things - to oversimplify, you - SF, me - fantasy.
And I just hate it when people don’t like a book I loved, so every time I recommend one it comes with a disclaimer.

I am consistently intrigued by “New Weird” but have yet to invest in a copy.
